It means: To go to sleep without making a decision. 

Making a decision the next day, so that you can have more time to think about it

Here are two examples of the expression, SLEEP ON IT:

Example #1: Before making any big life decisions, it’s good to sleep on it first.

Example #2: When she was offered a new job, Sara decided to sleep on it before deciding.
